In 1968 the Town Council started a project for the building of a ‘Bombo’ and turning it into a piece of the museum. Pablo Moreno, considered as a master of in the use of the dry stone technique, was in charge of this task. For this work, he used more than 2,000,000 stones skillfully placed one over another without any kind of mortar. The ‘Bombo’ was inaugurated on 20th October 1970.In the same place and since 1996 a project has been developed going through different phases of work and building, among others, the ‘Cocinilla Manchega’. Bombos were originally built on the second half of 19th century as a consequence of the increase of vineyard cultivation. They became house and shelter of farmers during their country tasks. In the inside we can find the chimney for the fire, the ‘poyos’ or stone benches for rest, the niches to keep food, the hungers on the walls where the peasants put their tools when they finished their tasks and the stables for the animals, which provided a pleasant warmth during the night. |
